You will have to complete training course of 75 to 150 hours. The CNA training course includes the theoretical classes as well as clinical practical lessons. The course duration may vary from one state to another state. Once you complete your CNA training course you are eligible to sit in state certification examination of nurse aide.

There will be written and practical evaluation of basic nursing skill that you learned in training course of CNA. Written examination consists of an average of 70 questions that check your theoretical knowledge and assess. The written test follows the multiple choice techniques is in English. The students who feel uncomfortable in English they can request for Spanish. You have also option of oral test instead of written.

In on-hand practical test, you have to perform nursing skill that you have learned in CNA training programs. In training session you are taught around twenty five nursing skill. You will assess for any five from list randomly. Some skills are listed below;

  • Record blood pressure, body temperature, radial pulse, respiration
  • Dress and feed patients
  • Transfer from bed to wheelchair using transfer belt

You have to show your skill in very hygienic way.

Certification of nursing assistant will awarded after passing examination successfully. Once you certified as CNA you are enable to work in employers such as hospitals, medical clinics, and health care facilities. The validity of certification is about only two years. Before expiration of certification you have to renew your certification.

The duties and responsibilities of CNA can varies due to nature of employers. Some major duties of CNA are as follows;

  • Change bed linens, bedpan of patient
  • Assist in personal hygiene
